Recalibration 00:00:00:00 is an installation that explores the relation between embodies presence, perception, and technological systems.
Subtle shifts in light and shadow are detected by a feedback loop of light sensors.
Some of these shifts are introduced by the viewer’s own movements, some are generated autonomously by the machines.
These disruptions are translated to audio in real time,
giving form to a continuous dialogue between body, environment and system.
The title’s timecode, “00:00:00:00,” marks a symbolic threshold—a point of perceptual reset where the viewer enters what the artist describes as a state of Mu-a-ji-gyeong, a Korean term for immersive presence beyond self-awareness.
Influenced by the Buddhist notion of ksana (찰나), or an indivisible moment of change, the work highlights the fragility of attention and the ongoing nature of perceptual reconstruction.
By proposing conditions rather than dictating paths, the installation invites each visitor to experience the space as a site of sensing, interference, and interdependency.
Recalibration 00:00:00:00 은 몸의 감각, 지각, 그리고 기술 시스템 사이의 관계를 탐구하는 설치 작업이다.
관객의 움직임이나 기계가 생성한 빛과 그림자의 미세한 변화가 센서에 감지되어 실시간으로 소리로 변환된다.
이 과정은 인간의 몸, 환경, 시스템 간의 연속적인 대화를 구성하며, 감각이 어떻게 재조정되는지를 드러낸다.
타이틀의 시간 코드 “00:00:00:00”은 상징적인 문턱을 의미한다. 이 지점은 관객이 작가가 말하는 ‘무아지경’의 상태로 진입하는 순간이다.
무아지경은 자아의식을 넘어서, 반복되는 반응과 상호작용 속에서 자신과 환경의 경계가 흐려지는 몰입의 상태다.
불교의 찰나(ksana) 개념 -모든 것이 변화를 겪는 분할 불가능한 시간의 한 점- 에서 영감을 받았으며 찰나의 그 순간, 관객은 자신도 인지하지 못한 채 시스템과 상호작용하고, 감각이 조정되는 과정을 몸을 통해 경험하게 된다.
이 설치는 정해진 동선을 강요하지 않고, 다양한 감각적 조건을 제안함으로써 각 관객이 ‘감지하고 개입하며 함께 구성하는’ 공간으로의 경험을 가능하게 한다.
